The Opportunity
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Supervisor to join our Service Team. You are to oversee daily workshop operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and problem-solving skills to manage staff, assign jobs, and uphold company standards.
The ideal candidate must be proactive and confident in handling complex repairs, even when unfamiliar, with an R&D-driven mindset to continuously learn and improve. Expertise in light and heavy commercial vehicles is essential for accurate diagnostics and repairs. The Supervisor must also lead by example, stepping in to perform complex jobs when needed to support the team and maintain service excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Management & Leadership
- Supervise, train, and mentor workshop technicians and support staff.
- Assign tasks based on team members' skills and expertise to optimize productivity.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to improve efficiency and service quality.
- Lead by example and remain hands-on, performing complex jobs when required to support the team.
2. Workshop Operations & Quality Control
- Oversee day-to-day workshop operations, ensuring smooth workflow and timely completion of jobs.
- Monitor repair and maintenance processes to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.
- Guide technicians on task sequencing and diagnostic approaches for complex repairs.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and calibration of tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Take on challenging and unfamiliar repairs with confidence, applying an R&D-driven mindset.
- Leverage personal contacts and resources to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge in diagnosing and repairing both light and heavy commercial vehicles, including passenger vehicles across various brands and models.
- Inspect completed repairs to verify they meet company standards and customer expectations.
- Implement and enforce quality control procedures to minimize errors and rework.
3. Customer Service & Communication
- Work closely with the customer service team to provide timely updates on repair progress.
- Interact with customers to understand vehicle issues and provide accurate repair estimates.
- Address customer complaints promptly and professionally to ensure high levels of satisfaction.
- Maintain a professional and courteous relationship with clients.
4. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workshop environment.
5. Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and job progress.
- Update job status and documentation in Kerridge KCML or other workshop management systems.
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports on workshop performance, including productivity, efficiency, and customer feedback.
Requirements:
- A minimum qualification of Nitec / Higher Nitec in Automotive Technology or related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in a workshop supervisory or technical advisory role.
- Possess a valid Class 3 driving license.
- Strong understanding of automotive repair workflows, diagnostics, and workshop operations.
- Well-versed in diagnosing and repairing both light and heavy commercial vehicles.
- Proactive and confident in handling complex repairs, with a continuous learning mindset.
- Ability to lead by example by taking on complex jobs when necessary.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and team management skills.
